A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF AND COUNCIL – NOVEMBER 24, 2020

Aaniin Curve Lake,

We wanted to thank all of our community members for cooperating with all of the precautionary

measures that have been put in place to protect our community from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our pandemic response relies on the collective spirit and resiliency that you have shown

through this difficult year. Your efforts make us proud to call Curve Lake home.

Although we have been successful so far in our measures, it is more important than ever that

we re-evaluate our response. Alongside our State Of Emergency Declaration from the first

wave, a proactive approach is necessary as we begin to see parts of Ontario enter into

lockdowns during the second wave.

ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY, THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIVES ARE UNDERWAY

1. Council has directed staff to prepare a plan to continue the window flag system and

identify what resources will be needed to support and implement. This is to encourage

community members to stay safe and stay home, while avoiding non-essential travel

outside of our community when possible.

2. Council has directed staff to evaluate the Employee Telework Policy to ensure that

staff who can work from home do so as much as possible. It is important for community

safety to limit contact at the Government Services Building and all Curve Lake-operated

buildings.

3. Council has directed staff to prepare a plan to collaborate with the business

community in Curve Lake to re-examine, enhance measures if necessary and outline a

Workplace Safety Plan, as required by Peterborough Public Health due to the change

in local protective measures.

4. Council has directed staff to prepare recommendations for allocations of new

possible funds from Indigenous Services Canada to enhance Curve Lake’s COVID-19

response.

5. Council has committed to an increase in communication with community members

while we continue to monitor all of the developments across our region. We continue

to ensure that community health and safety is our number one priority.

Alongside these directives, it is important that we immediately limit outside household

contacts, practice good hygiene, promote positive mental health and avoid non-essential travel

when possible. Council appreciates the efforts of all of our members and staff to combat this

pandemic.

Please contact your Chief and Councillors for any and all comments and/or

suggestions.

Miigwetch kina weya,
