COMMUNIQUE TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF CHILDREN/STUDENTS ATTENDING OELC AND CLFNS

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have been meeting regularly to discuss the safest way to bring children/students back to the Oshkiigmong Early Learning Centre and Curve Lake First Nation School. The process of making these decisions has been extremely difficult because the safety and health of the children/students are of utmost importance. The following decisions have been made;

1.The safety of our Children and our community as a whole is our top priority. We will delay the return of children/students to our buildings for at least two virus cycles of 14 days as we will be monitoring the Provincial opening of September8, 2020. Our proposed return date is October 5, 2020.

2.That the process of returning children/students to the buildings after Council resumes meetings in person and CLFN staff have returned to work;

3.Bringing the children/students back will be carefully thought out and monitored4.Children/Students will return to the buildings once Curve Lake determines there is minimal risk to their health and safety;

5.Limited cohorts of children/students will be admitted, with thoughtful and careful increase as the pandemic is monitored. School cohorts will attend on every-other day;

6.Developmental information and programming ideas will be shared with theOELC families;

7.Remote learning will be provided for the K-4 students attending CLFNS at all times when they are not physically in a classroom. This includes their ‘home’ days and will begin on September 8, 2020.

We remain committed to the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being of your children. All of our plans for reopening have given careful consideration to the recommendations in the report released by the Hospital for Sick Children and in consideration of the best interests of the child, including their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Parents/Guardians will be surveyed regarding registration at the OELC, attendance in person at CLFNS and bussing. Updates will be forthcoming as we continue to monitor the pandemic and make up-to-date decisions based on the most current information available to us. As promised, there will be at least two weeks’ notice for the return to the buildings. If you have any further questions or concerns please reach out to Louise Musgrave, Education Manager at louisem@curvelake.ca.

Respectfully,
