Dear Curve Lake Members,

Today our administrative team came together with members of Chief and Council to address how best to prepare our community and protect our members from the impacts of COVID-19. We would like to emphasize that the measures taken today are all preventative and in the best interest of keeping our community healthy.

On March 12, 2020 the Province of Ontario shut down all schools until April 5, 2020 due to increased travel over the March Break and the potential to bring home COVID-19. Curve Lake’s response team decided to close both our school and our Early Learning Centre for the same amount of time.

Our response team agreed that we would cancel all large gatherings but that smaller programs would be evaluated individually for risk levels. At this time, our March Break programming will continue with a modified schedule but we will continue to monitor the regional situation and will make decisions on an ongoing basis. Please contact the staff resource of any programs you participate in to inquire about their continuation.

Pursuant to our Community Pandemic Plan, we have taken the preventative step of cancelling all travel for Chief, Council and Staff. We are asking community members to please refrain from coming to all buildings – unless urgent – and to call ahead prior to any visit. Chief, Council and the Administration will continue to evaluate the delivery of programs and services and will keep all of our members up to date.

We applaud the work of scientists at Sunnybrook Hospital, the University of Toronto and McMaster University at their unprecedented speed in identifying the virus. This crucial achievement (which usually takes months) is the first step in developing an effective vaccine and treatment regimen for COVID-19. This is a positive direction as we continue to learn more about this virus.

The best preventative measures you can take include hand washing and staying home if you feel unwell. Please be cautious about all travel outside of the Province of Ontario and travel to the Greater Toronto Area, the Region of Peel and Hamilton.
