COMMUNITY NOTICE: OELC AND CLFN SCHOOL SHUT DOWN

Friday March 13, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians.

Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, Curve lake First Nation has decided to close the Oshkiigmong Early Learning Centre and the Curve Lake First Nation School effective immediately. The Centre and School will reopen on Monday April 6. 2020.

The decision was based on information received from the Ontario Ministry of Education as follows; “Based on advice from Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the experts at the COVID-19 Command Table, the minister of education has issued a ministerial order to close all publicly funded schools in Ontario for two weeks following March break in response to the emergence in Ontario of COVID-19.”

This is a precautionary measure, to ensure that the effects of the outbreak are minimized in this community. Education staff met with Council and Senior Management Team today to discuss the situation. While this area remains in containment and there are no known cases, it is important to protect our children and ensure that we minimize the possibility of exposure.

The buildings will be cleaned and sanitized during the closure. We are sincerely concerned that this will put a burden on our families and apologize for the inconvenience of closure. however, believe that this is the best plan for the children and students.
